Christingle
On the last day of term we held our annual Christingle service. Thank you for the beautiful Christingles that were made at home and brought in.
Triple Printing
We used the triple printing technique to make our Christmas cards. We made our designs on a polystyrene tile. We first did a print in green and cut out the tree. Then we did a print in red and cut out the pot. Finally we did a print on white.
Cross Stitch
As part of our DT work in Here's One I Made Earlier we made cross stitch gift cards. We chose which design to do either a santa hat, Christmas tree or holly and berries. Once we got the hang of it, we produced some lovely pieces. However, some of us did pull the...
Pop Up Toys
As part of our DT work in Here's One I Made Earlier, we made a pop-up toy using a cam mechanism. Firstly we investigated different toys and their mechanisms and identified the differences between a cam and a wheel. Then we needed to use the drills and the saws to make...
Maths For All
Year 5 invited our family members to come in for a come and learn session linked to our work on maths. We looked at some of the models and images that we use in our work. Then we completed some challenges around multiples and factors. Thanks to all that attended.
Greek Pots
We used clay to make a Greek lekanis pot. We started by making a pinch pot, then we made a lip and attached a base and handles by using a scoring technique. After they were dry we painted a Greek design on the lip.
Forces
Our science topic has been about forces this term. We have completed lots of experiments around friction, water resistance and air resistance using Newton Meters. We have also though about how levers, pulleys and gears make jobs easier.
It’s All Greek To Me!
As part of our 'It's All Greek To Me' history and geography topic, we took part in some Greek food tasting. We tasted olives, hummus, tzatziki, pitta bread, feta cheese and Greek yoghurt. Most of us found it yummy but some of us were not too keen on some foods.
Freestyle Football
Year 5 had a fantastic time when Ash Randall came to school to show us how to do some of his freestyling tricks. It was great to see him doing his tricks and teaching us one or two.
