As part of our Science work on Digestion and food chains we recreated the digestive system. We have been learning rhymes to remember the order of the digestive system – My Older Sister Smells Like Rotten Apples – Mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Small intestines, Large intestines, Rectum, Anus. For the practical, we cut the food using scissors to replicate incisors, added water for saliva and lemon juice for the stomach acid. We mashed it together in the stomach and transferred it to the small intestines (tights) where the nutrients were squeezed out into the body. Then we passed the left over food into the large intestines and finally the rectum.
