Hello and welcome to the Year 1 Class! My name is Mrs Hardy and I am the Year 1 Class Teacher, and this is Mrs Berry, Year 1’s Class Teaching Assistant.
In Year 1 we love to do hard work that is both enjoyable, educational and, at times, can be messy! Feel free to take a look at all of the fun, exciting things we do...! We hope this will be an easy way for you to keep up to date with what is happening in our class!

KS1 went to visit church to celebrate Heritage day. We went on a teddy bear hunt
around church!

To celebrate Harvest we produced fruit prints. These prints were presented in Church at the sunday service.

In Science we tested different materials to see which were waterproof!

After reading The Enormous Turnip we decided to make soup. We peeled and chopped all the vegetables for the soup.We chopped leeks,cabbage,potatoes,carrots and onions (these made us Cry!!!)

We designed an oufit for the King to wear after we read The Emperor and his new clothes.

To celebrate All Saints Day KS1 looked at the life of Saint Francis who we discovered is the patron saint of animals.
We made our own bird food to hang in the garden.
We made stained glass pictures of animals.
We painted pictures of Saint Francis,made animal masks and made animal scrap books.

To celebrate bonfire night we did lots of activities:
We made chocolate apples
We made sparklers and firework pictures
We had a bonfire party where we had a fire, sparklers, parkin and treacle toffee! yummy! animal scrap books.

Our Christmas party was brilliant!!!!!
We had a disco and played lots of games and then we got a massive surprise Father Christmas came to visit and brought us all a present!!!!!!!

On Christmas dinner day we had streamers and crackers. All the staff served us our dinner at the tables!!!!

To celebrate Chinese New Year we made Hats and ate noodles and prawn crackers!!!!!

Today We sorted Materials and tested to see which were Opaque,Transparent and Translucent.

We wrote instructions for making jam sandwiches. We then had to follow the instructions
to make our own sandwich then eat it Yum! Yum!

We had to follow a set of instructions to make chocolate nests. We got to eat them when we had written our own instructions on how to make them. Yum Yum!

We invited parents into school for a reading afternoon. We shared books in the classrooms and the library. We also played literacy games with our parents and some of the older children. Thank you for your support and hope you had a lovely afternoon.
